# Rejecting Expressions of Interest

Source: https://docs.astalty.com.au/guide/scheduling/rejecting-expressions-of-interest

> Reject a shift board expression of interest and record a reason the Support Worker will see.

Scheduling add-on - This feature requires the Scheduling add-on, which is available on Astalty Premium. See How to enable Scheduling.

## Overview

When Support Workers express interest in a broadcast on the [Shift Board](https://docs.astalty.com.au/guide/scheduling/shift-board-workflow), you can **reject** an expression of interest (EOI) you don't want to approve - and record a reason the worker will see.

Rejecting an EOI:

- Notifies the worker with your reason.
- Stops that worker from expressing interest in the same broadcast again.
- Returns the shift to **Broadcasting** automatically if no other interest remains, so it stays visible to other workers.

> **Reject vs decline**
>
> **Rejecting** is an admin action taken from the Shift Board. It is different from a Support Worker **declining** a broadcast in the app - see [Shift Board - Support Worker App](https://docs.astalty.com.au/guide/scheduling/support-worker-app/schedule-and-availability/shift-board-support-worker-app). Admins reject; workers decline.

## Rejecting a Single Expression of Interest

1. Open **Scheduling → Shift Board** and click into the relevant broadcasted shift.
2. In the **Broadcasts** section, find the worker whose expression of interest you want to reject.
3. Open the row's **actions menu** and select **Reject**.
4. Enter a **reason** for the rejection. This is the message the worker receives, so make it clear.
5. Click **Reject**.

> **When can an EOI be rejected?**
>
> The **Reject** action is only available for a worker who has **expressed interest** and has not already been **approved** or **rejected**. Once a broadcast has an approved worker, its remaining expressions of interest can no longer be rejected.

### What happens after rejecting

- The worker receives a notification: *"Your expression of interest was not successful,"* along with the reason you entered.
- The worker **cannot re-express interest** in that broadcast.
- If the rejected worker was the only interest on the broadcast, the shift returns to **Broadcasting** so other selected workers can still express interest.
- The broadcast row shows a **Rejected at** timestamp, who rejected it, and the reason.

## Bulk Rejecting Expressions of Interest with Award Alerts

If you use [Award Alerts](https://docs.astalty.com.au/guide/scheduling/scheduling-award-alerts), you can reject multiple expressions of interest at once instead of one at a time.

1. Open the broadcasted shift on the **Shift Board**.
2. In the **Broadcasts** section, open the **Actions** menu and select **Reject Expressions of Interest**.
3. Astalty pre-selects **every worker whose expression of interest has an award alert**, so you can reject them all in one action. Adjust the selection with the checkboxes or search if you only want to reject some.
4. Enter a single **rejection reason** to send to all selected workers.
5. Click **Reject** to confirm.

> **When this option appears**
>
> **Reject Expressions of Interest** only appears when Award Alerts are enabled and at least one expression of interest on the broadcast currently has an award alert. Each selected worker is notified and blocked from re-expressing interest, exactly as with a single rejection.

## Tracking Rejections

On a broadcast's **Broadcasts** table you can:

- See the **Rejected at** column showing when an EOI was rejected, by whom, and the recorded reason.
- Apply the **Rejected** filter to show only rejected expressions of interest.

## Filtering the Shift Board by Date

The Shift Board list has a **Date** filter that works the same way as the one on [Unassigned Shifts](https://docs.astalty.com.au/guide/scheduling/unassigned-shift). Use it to narrow the board to shifts starting within a chosen date range (including quick presets such as *This* and *Next* period), alongside the existing **Status** and **Archived** filters.

The list can also be sorted by **Shift Start Time** - see [Sorting the Shift Board](https://docs.astalty.com.au/guide/scheduling/shift-board-workflow#sorting-the-shift-board).

## On the Support Worker App

Rejections are reflected in the Support Worker app:

- A rejected shift shows a **Rejected** badge on the worker's Shift Board.
- The worker receives a **push notification** with the rejection reason and can tap through to the broadcast.
- The worker **cannot re-express interest** in that broadcast.

For the worker's view of the Shift Board, see [Shift Board - Support Worker App](https://docs.astalty.com.au/guide/scheduling/support-worker-app/schedule-and-availability/shift-board-support-worker-app).
