## Before You Start

Your organisation must first create the Template in [Template Settings](https://docs.astalty.com.au/guide/settings/template-settings). The Template's usage type controls where it appears and which details it can use.

## Generate a Custom Document

1. Open the Participant in [Participants](https://app.astalty.com.au/participants).
2. Select **Templates**.
3. Choose a Custom Template.
4. Enter the document name.
5. For a Service Agreement Template, select the **Budget** used for its Schedule of Support placeholders. See [Participant Budgets](https://docs.astalty.com.au/guide/participants/budgets).
6. Select **Generate**.

Astalty fills the Template's placeholders from the Participant and opens the result in the document editor. Review the content and make any changes before you finish it.

## Adding a Contact to a Generated Template

While editing, select **Contacts** and hover over a Contact to see their name, relationship, email, mobile, phone, and recorded consent status. Select a detail to insert it at the cursor.

The consent icon beside each Contact indicates whether consent to share information is recorded. See [Consent to Share Information](https://docs.astalty.com.au/guide/participants/participant-directory/contacts#consent).

## Finalise a Generated Document

1. Select **Finish Editing** when the content is ready.
2. Select **Edit** to make further changes, or **Finalise** to lock in the finished document.
3. After finalising, choose **Create a Record**, or use **Actions** to download, email, or delete the document.

When you create a Record, choose the **Record Type**, enter its details, and choose whether it needs to be signed. If you choose not to send it immediately, you can send it later from the Participant's **Records** page.

See [Participant Records](https://docs.astalty.com.au/guide/participants/participant-records) for the Record workflow and [eSignatures](https://docs.astalty.com.au/guide/esignatures) for electronic signing. You can also download the PDF for printing or in-person signing.
