> Tag contacts to capture skills and details like Auslan or Telehealth availability.

## Overview

Contact Tags are a flexible way to add key details to your Contacts. Within an organisation, individual Contacts may have unique capabilities or skills that differ from their colleagues - such as Auslan proficiency, Telehealth availability, or a specialised skill set not shared across the wider organisation. Tags surface these attributes at a glance in the Contacts table, and let you filter and search to quickly find the right person without manually reviewing each Contact's profile.

Common examples include **Auslan**, **Telehealth**, **Deaf Friendly**, **Bulk Billing**, **Mobile**, and **Waitlist Full**, but you can create any Tag that's meaningful for your team.

## Attaching Tags

To add an existing Tag to a Contact's profile click the **+ Add Tag** button. This will open up the Tags list - if you can't see the Tag you need straight away, you may need to search for it.

Select a Tag to attach it to the Contact.

## Removing Tags

To remove a Tag from a Contact, follow the same steps outlined above - if you click a Tag that is already assigned, it will be removed instead.

## Creating a New Tag

If your search does not match an existing Tag, select **Create:** or press **Enter** to open the Tag manager and create it.

You can also choose custom colours for Tags. Select the **+** icon to add a new colour, then pick your preferred format: RGB, HSL, or HEX. Enter the appropriate colour code, and click outside the colour selector to apply it to the Tag. Select **Update** to save your changes.

## Updating a Tag

To update an existing Tag you can find the Tag you want to update in the Tag list and click on the edit icon. This will open the Tag manager where you can then edit the Tag.

> Updating a Tag will update it for all Contacts.

Updating a Tag will update that Tag name and colour for all Contacts using that Tag.

## Filtering Tags

Once Tags have been applied to your Contacts, you can use them to quickly narrow down the list and surface people with specific capabilities or attributes.

From the **Contacts** page in the Directory, click **Filter** and select **Tags** from the available options. Click any Tags relevant to what you're looking for - any Contact who has at least one of the selected Tags will be displayed in the list.

Tags applied to each Contact are also visible at the end of the table, so you can scan results at a glance without opening individual profiles. They come through in the [Contacts Export](https://docs.astalty.com.au/guide/exports/contacts-export) as well, in a **Tags** column.

## Managing all Tags

For those that have the admin role, Contact Tags can also be managed from the [Directory Settings](https://app.astalty.com.au/settings/directory) page.
