# Handling claim type specific line items

> Understand the NDIS claim type specific line items introduced from 1 July 2026 and which base items are affected.

Astalty uses **claim type specific line items** for the affected support item numbers below when the charge date is on or after 1 July 2026. Instead of using a single line item with the Claim Type selected on the charge, each claim type now has its own line item number, identified by a suffix:

- `_CA` - Cancellation
- `_NF` - Non-Face-to-Face
- `_PT` - Provider Travel
- `_RR` - NDIA Requested Reports
- `_TH` - Telehealth

For example, the base item `01_650_0118_1_3` now has variants such as `01_650_0118_1_3_CA` (Cancellation) and `01_650_0118_1_3_NF` (Non-Face-to-Face).

## How Astalty handles these

**For existing Charge Items**, Astalty derives the support item number from the charge's Claim Type and date. The Charge Item's creation date does not determine this formatting. Review the charge's Claim Type; eligible charges dated from 1 July 2026 receive the corresponding suffix automatically.

**For new standalone Charge Items**, affected base items and their variants have a locked Claim Type. Select the appropriate item, including the base item for Direct Service. Charge Item Sets store the base support item number and allow their row Claim Types to be configured; see [Choosing a Claim Type](https://docs.astalty.com.au/guide/charge-items/managing-charge-item-sets/creating-updating-charge-item-sets#choosing-a-claim-type).

## How this appears in the NDIA bulk upload file

When you generate the [NDIA bulk upload file](https://docs.astalty.com.au/guide/finance/invoicing/invoice-batches/bulk-upload-file), these variant items are reported slightly differently:

- The **SupportNumber** column carries the claim type as a suffix where one applies (for example, `15_610_0128_1_3_PT` for Provider Travel). Direct Service claims keep the base number with no suffix (for example, `15_610_0128_1_3`).
- The **ClaimType** column is left blank for these variant items, because the claim type is already built into the Support Item Number and doesn't need to be claimed twice.

Non-variant items and Charges dated before 1 July 2026 are unchanged. They keep their usual Support Item Number and continue to populate the **ClaimType** column.

> Astalty's formatting does not confirm whether a claim or service booking meets the NDIA's requirements. If a portal rejects the item or Claim Type, confirm the required submission with the NDIA before changing it. Do not change a claim to Direct Service solely to bypass a rejection.
