> How Astalty's AI features handle your data, including where it is processed and stored, and how to keep AI processing in Australia.

This page explains how AI features handle information, including **Astalty Support**, **Ask Astalty** where available, and **Ask AI** in this guide. Review AI-generated answers before relying on them.

## Where is my data processed when I use AI features?

Astalty uses **AWS Bedrock**, Amazon's AI service, for its built-in AI models. Your account's **AI region** decides where Bedrock processes requests from the AI features built into Astalty:

| AI region | Where requests are processed |
| ------------------------ | ----------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Global** (the default) | Any AWS commercial region worldwide, chosen by Bedrock for each request |
| **Australia only** | AWS regions in Australia |

**Astalty Support** and the **AI chat in this user guide** always run in Australia, whichever AI region your account is on.

What AI features save in your Astalty account, such as **Ask Astalty** conversations, is stored in Australia with the rest of [your account data](https://docs.astalty.com.au/guide/security#data-storage). See the retention information below for requests handled by Bedrock.

The **Astalty MCP server** works differently: it passes your data to the AI assistant you connect, which handles it under that provider's own terms.

## How do I keep AI processing in Australia?

Email <support@astalty.com.au> and ask for **Australia only**. Astalty switches your account for you; there is no setting to change it yourself. The same email switches it back to **Global**.

After switching to **Australia only**, new AI requests are processed in Australia. If an existing **Ask Astalty** conversation used global processing, start a new conversation to continue. Conversations that already used Australian processing can continue.

## Is my data used to train AI models?

Your prompts and answers are not used to train the AI models. AWS operates the models through Bedrock; the model providers do not receive your prompts or answers. See [AWS's data protection guidance](https://docs.aws.amazon.com/bedrock/latest/userguide/data-protection.html).

Data retention is a separate question from training. AWS's [retention rules](https://docs.aws.amazon.com/bedrock/latest/userguide/data-retention.html) depend on the model and account settings. For confirmation of the retention arrangements that apply to your organisation, contact <support@astalty.com.au>.

## How is my data kept secure?

AI requests use encrypted connections. For Astalty's current infrastructure controls and security documentation, visit the [Trust Centre](https://trust.astalty.com.au/) or contact [support](mailto:support@astalty.com.au).

## Will this always be the case?

The models available to each feature can change. Contact <support@astalty.com.au> if your organisation needs confirmation of the current models, processing locations or retention arrangements before using an AI feature.
